Maths Coursework ... and Art?

For my maths coursework i have chosen to use art as my other subject, so Miss K and I have decided for me to a project investigating the relationship between the Golden Ratio and how aesthetically pleasing pictures are.

Having done some research into the Golden Ration i discovered many famous paintings have the ratio involved somehow, but also that lots of shapes in nature include the golden ratio. Right now i am just doing background research into the topic, however here are a few pictures that include the golden ratio -

Georges Pierre Seurat

Salvador Dali

Piet Mondrian

Leonardo da Vinci

Stephan Lochner

Of course there are many other painters that use the golden ration, these are only a few, however i will also be investigating the ratio in architecture (buildings like the Parthenon and The Acropolis, also Benedictine Monasteries) and also in nature (for example the shapes of shells.)

I will keep updating this post with information as i find more and more, and also the results after i have collected the data for my coursework.
